Treating fibromyalgia with homoeopathy

Fibromyalgia is a condition that affects 2-6% of the population in industrialized countries. This disease is debilitating and can have impacts on the patients’ social life. In some cases, patients suffering from fibromyalgia are unable to conduct their daily business.

Characteristics of fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia is a type of chronic pain that affects the muscles and tendons. It is caused by a series of factors, including metabolic or hormonal disorders. It is also common among people who are prone to depression or who tend to be pessimistic. A sedentary lifestyle, stress and diet are factors that may also predispose an individual to fibromyalgia.

Fibromyalgia is a pathology that is not easily diagnosed. Its symptoms are usually linked to migraine or chronic fatigue. To detect fibromyalgia, pain must be made apparent by applying pressure to certain specific areas.

The main symptoms of fibromyalgia are a widespread pain that lasts for more than three months, muscle stiffness upon awakening and chronic fatigue. The individual suffers from non-restorative sleep that results in physical fatigue. However, the duration and nature of symptoms may vary depending on the level of stress that affects the patient. Several external factors, like climate, may also have an influence on the symptoms. Thus, fibromyalgia can manifest itself through other symptoms such as headaches, disorders of the digestive system like diarrhoea, painful menstruation and an irritable bladder.

Recommended treatments

To treat pain that can be alleviated with massage, movement or heat, resort to a weekly intake of Colocynthis 200 k. The patient can relieve psychological symptoms like irritability by supplementing the treatment with two daily 3-granule intakes of Rhus toxicodendron 5 CH. Taking 3 granules of Arsenicum Album 4 CH twice a day during 6 weeks helps to alleivate agitation, anxiety, and the sensation of internal burning. Inflammation of the mucous membranes accompanied by chronic fatigue can be relieved by taking 5 granules of Alumina 12 CH once a week. It is also possible to use Bryonia 4 CH without combining it to Rhus toxicodendron. To relieve painful fingers, take Benzoïcum Acidum 4 CH during 2 months. As for shoulder pain, it can be alleviated with Ferrum metallicum and the treatment should last 2 months.

Consulting a doctor to prevent complications

It is necessary to consult a specialist if the patient’s condition does not improve during treatment. In an individual has been cured of fibromyalgia, but notices the recurrence of symptoms, he or she should follow this warning and seek further medical attention.

Good to know: Homoeopathic treatment of fibromyalgia can be combined to oligotherapy. Thus, the use of products containing silver, copper and gold salts help to cure insomnia. Note that lithium has a neuroregulatory effect.

Pathology and homeopathy are two fields of scientific research that go hand in hand. As a matter of fact, homeopathic research on a disease is always accompanied by a pathological study of that disease. Pathology is the scientific field that studies diseases, while homeopathy is a gentle method for treating diseases. Homeopathic treatment follows the principles of similarity (Similia similibus curentur or "likes are cured by likes") and comprehensiveness. There is no universal treatment for a given disease; it must be adapted to each patient.
