Lower back pain

Relieving lower back pain with homoeopathy

Lower back pain is a common musculoskeletal disorder. It affects many people and can have many causes such as muscle injuries, disc degeneration and discal hernia among others. Muscle damage can be caused by repetitive motion or an awkward movement.

Disc degeneration is generally due to the intervertebral discs’ loss of elasticity. It primarily occurs among athletes that reach their forties and adults that are over 60 years old. Discal hernia particularly affects pregnant women or overweight individuals. Gynaecological infections or diseases that affect the elderly, like arthritis or osteoporosis, can also result in lower back pain and can be cured by homoeopathy.

Main symptoms

The symptoms of lower back pain vary depending on the patient’s perception and the trauma’s cause. Lower back pain may also be of inflammatory origin or be caused by the existence of a diseased organ. In that case, lower back pain is very intense at night and stretching does not provide any relief. Lower back pain caused by arthrosis or muscle trauma is painful in the morning and can be relieved by stretching.

A discal hernia or sciatica can also result in lower back pain. The main warning sign is the spread of pain to one or both legs. The pain is intensified by coughing or other movements requiring physical effort. If lower back pain stems from damage to the muscles, ligaments or discs, the affected person feels a sharp pain in the lower back accompanied by severe muscle contractions.

Basic treatment and related treatments

In general, lower back pain can be alleviated by taking 3 granules of Rhus Tox 5 to 6 times a day. In addition, applying the product in ointment-form on the painful area also helps to reduce the pain. Moreover, it is often necessary to use various remedies depending on the symptoms that appear. The dosage for each remedy consists of 3 granules that need to be taken 3 to 5 times a day. When the patient experiences a generalized ache after a fall or an awkward movement, it is recommended to resort to Arnica 5 CH.

If the pain is localized near the cervical vertebrae, take Lachnantes 5 CH in combination with Rhus toxicodendron 5 CH. Used alone, the latter remedy can also relieve pain accompanied by painful sensations that increase during rest. Sometimes, lower back pain manifests itself by spasms and cramps accompanied by muscle stiffness. You can use Angostura vera 5 CH to quickly alleviate these symptoms. In some cases, if the patient has difficulty turning over in bed, opt for Nux vomica, as it will also eliminate the tearing sensation.

When should you consult a doctor?

Lower back pain that is caused by a fall or shock on the back must require an immediate medical consultation. It is also necessary to seek medical help if the treatments do not have any effect after 72 hours, or if the pain spreads to the legs and abdomen. Other warning signs include weight loss that occurs with no valid reason or the onset of other symptoms in the intestine and urinary tract.

Pathology and homeopathy are two fields of scientific research that go hand in hand. As a matter of fact, homeopathic research on a disease is always accompanied by a pathological study of that disease. Pathology is the scientific field that studies diseases, while homeopathy is a gentle method for treating diseases. Homeopathic treatment follows the principles of similarity (Similia similibus curentur or "likes are cured by likes") and comprehensiveness. There is no universal treatment for a given disease; it must be adapted to each patient.
