Oxalicum acidum

Treating renal colic with Oxalicum acidum

Oxalicum Acidum is an acid found in vegetables such as parsley and soya, although both only contain it in small quantities. On the other hand, its presence is more substantial in sorrel or rhubarb, where it comes in the form of calcium oxalate or potassium. It is an insoluble salt that cannot be absorbed by the intestinal mucosa. Therefore, its presence in the body can result in the formation of kidney stones.

Overview of the remedy

Oxalicum Acidum or oxalic acid is a remedy used in homoeopathy. In its natural state, it is a diacid that can be harmful to one’s health. In fact, it may cause local irritation and blood circulation disorders. It is also available in the form of oxalate and easily binds with minerals like calcium. Moreover, it is important to know that absorption in large quantities can result in calcium deficiency. However, Oxalicum Acidum has therapeutic virtues that can be used in the treatment of many urology disorders. The homeopathic stock is obtained from oxalic-acid-rich vegetables like spinach and rhubarb. The remedy comes in the form of white crystalline powder.

Main indications in urology

Oxalicum Acidum is recommended in urology to treat any disorders that affect the urinary organs. It allows you to cure oxaluria, a condition characterized by the presence of oxalate in the urine. Besides, it is used to relieve  renal colics in case of kidney stones, which are calcium, potassium and sodium residues that form pebbles and clog the urinary tract. Renal colics are characterized by severe kidney pain. Oxalicum Acidum is also prescribed in case of urinary disorders that are accompanied by weakness and asthenia. Indeed, it is administered to patients whose urine discharge is abundant or who have a frequent need to urinate.

Recommended dosage in urology

To treat kidney stones accompanied by renal colic, take 3 granules of Oxalicum acidum 9 CH, 3 times a day. In case of oxalic lithiasis with neuralgia, take Oxalicum Acidum 4 CH to 15 CH. Given that each intake must be adapted to the symptoms, calcium oxalate stones must be treated with a weekly dose of Oxalicum Acidum 9 CH during 5 weeks. After treating renal colic, prevent the recurrence of kidney stones  by taking a daily 5-granule dose of Oxalicum Acidum 200K.

Pathology and homeopathy are two fields of scientific research that go hand in hand. As a matter of fact, homeopathic research on a disease is always accompanied by a pathological study of that disease. Pathology is the scientific field that studies diseases, while homeopathy is a gentle method for treating diseases. Homeopathic treatment follows the principles of similarity (Similia similibus curentur or "likes are cured by likes") and comprehensiveness. There is no universal treatment for a given disease; it must be adapted to each patient.
