Angina

Treating angina with homoeopathy

Angina is a major inflammation of the throat and tonsils. Most of the time, it is caused by a virus and can be treated without resorting to antibiotics. But bacteria such as streptococcus, pneumococcus, or Haemophilus influenzae can also be responsible for angina outbreaks. In these cases, taking antibiotics becomes necessary. Only a medical examination of the mouth can help determine the type of angina that a patient suffers from. However, homoeopathy, used alone or in combination with antibiotics, speeds up the healing process of all types of angina.

The main causes of angina

When it is not of bacterial origin, angina is often the result of the body’s excessive exposure to the cold. The use of air conditioning, inhalation of dry air, and tobacco are all more harmful to people who have just been diagnosed with angina. In order not to worsen the condition, it is often recommended to protect oneself against the cold at all times and to adjust the temperature of the air conditioner to a suitable level similar to the outside temperature. It is also advised to humidify the air in the room in which one lives, to refrain from smoking and to avoid smoke-filled spaces. Finally, in terms of diet, it is recommended to drink lots of water or other beverages, the only exception being alcoholic beverages which should be particularly avoided at such time.

The related symptoms

Angina can be easily recognized by a sore throat that is often accompanied by sensations of pain or difficulties swallowing as well as a burning sensation in the ears. For this reason, priority should be given liquid meals, so as not to irritate the throat. If the angina is caused by a virus, it is accompanied by a cough and / or a cold, which is generally not the case with bacterial anginas.
A rise in body temperature and a strong sensation of fatigue can also be observed among patients. Furthermore, a redness on the tonsils, followed by the appearance of a whitish film, can be observed if the condition is caused by a streptococcus. The lymph nodes are not spared; they get inflamed and the patient may vomit continuously. At this stage, other complications may manifest themselves and it becomes urgent to seek medical attention.

The homoeopathic treatments

Homoeopathy helps you treat all angina types. What is important here is to use the appropriate products. A homoeopath will be particularly helpful in determining which homoeopathic needs to be prescribed depending on the patient’s state and the symptoms shown.

For informational purposes only, we can advise you to take 3 or 4 granules of Belladonna 5 CH and Mercurius Solubilis 5 CH, every one or two hours, for the treatment of viral angina. Three times a day, you need to gargle a mixture made up of Phytolacca colouring agent dissolved in water. The related symptoms, such as difficulties to swallow, the need to relieve an aching throat with hot liquid, or rhinitis, can all be treated with Phytolacca, Capsicum or Arum Triphyllum, all in the same doses.

Bacterial angina is usually cured with antibiotics that are prescribed after a medical consultation. To speed up the healing process, a homoeopathic remedy can also be used in complement to the antibiotics. Thus, taking Mercurius Solubilis 4 to 7 CH every hour, can help discharge infected ears, treat white angina and help resolve other symptoms resulting from this affection. Taking Mercurius Cyanatus 7 to 15 CH is also advisable, and this remedy should be taken 3 to 4 times a day to relieve pain associated to swallowing. Depending on which side of the throat feels sore, different remedies will be prescribed. Indeed, Mercurius Proto-iodatus should be used for the right side while, for the left one, the use of Mercurius Bi-iodatus will be recommended.

When should you consult a doctor?

If there is no improvement or reduction of symptoms after 48 hours, it becomes necessary to consult a doctor. Furthermore, in case of sudden manifestation of symptoms, such as inflamed glands, skin rash, strong fever or heavy fatigue, do not try to cure yourself but instead take care to seek medical attention right away. If you suspect angina, it is advisable to go to a hospital for a check-up, to determine the type of angina that you suffer from as well as the most suitable treatment for its cure.

Pathology and homeopathy are two fields of scientific research that go hand in hand. As a matter of fact, homeopathic research on a disease is always accompanied by a pathological study of that disease. Pathology is the scientific field that studies diseases, while homeopathy is a gentle method for treating diseases. Homeopathic treatment follows the principles of similarity (Similia similibus curentur or "likes are cured by likes") and comprehensiveness. There is no universal treatment for a given disease; it must be adapted to each patient.
