Asthenia is characterized by a sensation of fatigue. However, it is not a temporary state but a pathology. Indeed, if regular fatigue has a tendency to disappear after rest, asthenia is more a state of constant fatigue.
There are three known types of asthenia. The first type is physical asthenia, so named because it is caused by an affected organ. The pathology usually results from an infectious disease such as, for example, hepatitis, tuberculosis or blood-related diseases, or other affections such as diabetes and heart disease. The sensation of fatigue occurs mostly in the evening. Sometimes, instead of being the result of the above-mentioned diseases, asthenia is rather the forerunner sign.
The second type is reactive asthenia, also known as functional asthenia In most cases, this type of asthenia is caused by constraints and stress. The affected individual is then subjected to fatigue from morning to night. Exacerbated by this feeling of tiredness, the patient can no longer withstand noise.
The third type of asthenia is psychic asthenia, which mainly affects people prone to depression. They are morally and physically exhausted, and have usually endured a traumatic experience, such losing a job or a loved one.
Asthenia is manifested by a lack of appetite, sleep disturbances, muscular and mental fatigue (difficulty concentrating and poor memory) and a decreased libido. In short, asthenia is a constant feeling of exhaustion. Asthenia can occur at any age and can be caused by several factors. Students suffering from asthenia have difficulties understanding notions they are taught and experience chronic headaches. They are no longer able to express themselves with ease and forget words or confuse letters.
Homoeopathic methods consist of stimulating the body’s immune system with natural substances. Thus, the body does not need to absorb any chemicals. In order to do this, the homoeopathic remedy reproduces the same symptoms as those caused by the disease that must be fought.
For a subject in recovery after having been exposed to infectious diseases, administer China rubra 9 CH. The dosage is five granules of the remedy, to be taken three times a day over a 10-day period, especially in cases during which asthenia occurs after profuse diarrhoea. In cases of overwork, take five granules of Anacardium Orientalis 9 CH twice a day, morning and evening, over a one-month period, to be renewed if necessary. This remedy is particularly recommended to students. In case of headaches and memory problems, take 5 granules of Kalium phosphoricum 15 CH daily for a month, to be renewed if necessary. When, in addition to headaches and memory problems, the patient also suffers from frequent diarrhoea and hair loss, it is advisable to take a weekly dose of Phosphoricum acidum 30 CH over a 3-month period. If the student notices a recrudescence of acne and sleep disorders, her or she should be administered 5 granules of Selenium metallicum 9 CH daily over 2 to 3 months.
To prevent attention deficit disorder and memory problems, take a monthly dose of Calcarea phosphorica 15 CH during the school year. In case of mental and nervous fatigue, or if the student shows signs of exhaustion and dejection, he or she should take two daily doses of Zincum metallicum 7CH to 9 CH. Two daily doses of Anacardium Orientalis 9 CH are also recommended for subjects suffering from intellectual fatigue and who are aggressive towards people around them. For states of stress linked to stage fright, including the preparation of an important event like an exam, Gelsemium 9 CH is to be taken the day before and the morning of the day’s event. To anticipate periods of intense work, take two daily doses of Phosphoricum acidum 7 CH, combined with Kalium phosphoricum 7 CH and Gelsemium 9 CH.
When the feeling of intense fatigue affects a child, a pregnant woman or a nursing mother, a medical consultation is necessary. The same is true if the state of heavy fatigue does not disappear even after hours of sleep. Furthermore, if the asthenia doesn’t disappear after a month of treatment, pay the doctor another visit. Similarly, decreased libido or impotence require the assistance of a medical specialist. Finally, it is mandatory to seek medical attention if the patient loses a lot of weight while, simultaneously, suffering from joint pain, fever or feelings of faintness.
Good to know: Not only is homoeopathy able to prevent asthenia, but it also alleviates its symptoms. For young people who feel discouraged, are subjected to mental and physical fatigue or are prone to depression, it is recommended to take Phosphoricum acidum 7CH to 9CH twice a day
