Cervicitis

Treating cervicitis with homoeopathy

Cervicitis is an inflammation of the uterine cervix, generally due to a bacterial, parasitic or viral infection. The disease is usually contracted during unprotected sexual intercourse with a person that has an STD such as chlamydia, gonorrhoea or herpes.  But it can also be caused by an irritation or injury resulting from an intolerance to the chemical substances contained in tampons and contraceptives. Also know that a pregnant woman with cervicitis can transmit the infection to her baby. If the condition is left untreated, it can make the baby blind.

Symptoms of cervicitis

Cervicitis is often asymptomatic. However, there are some precursory signs of the disease.  The infection can be caused by leucorrhoea, a thick whitish or yellowish vaginal discharge. This discharge becomes even more pronounced after the menstruation period. Besides that, the patient also experiences vaginal bleeding, itching or irritating sensations on the genitals’ external parts, pain during sexual intercourse and a burning sensation when urinating. In the most severe cases, the patient is subjected to a profuse foul-smelling discharge accompanied by strong vaginal itching or abdominal pain. A fever or nausea can also occur if the infection spreads to the whole body.

Homoeopathic care

Argentum nitricum is the first recommended remedy for the treatment of cervicitis due to its effectiveness in the field of gynaecology. This silver nitrate-based homoeopathic remedy is first diluted before being conditioned in the form of granules. It mainly acts on the pain felt during urination and around the genital area. The recommended dosage is 5 granules of dilutions ranging from 9 to 30 CH, to be taken daily over a 3-month period. Erigeron canadensis is another homoeopathic remedy that can be used in the treatment of cervicitis. Made from aster plants, of which the polyenes have anti-inflammatory properties, this remedy is to be taken in a unique dose of dilution 15 CH once a day to fight off the infection.

When should you consult a doctor?

If the cervicitis has been left untreated, it may spread and reach internal organs, particularly the reproductive organs. A woman may then have difficulties becoming pregnant or be subjected to miscarriages. For this reason, a medical consultation is mandatory as soon as pain manifests itself or in case of unusual discharges. Both the patient and his or her partner, who may also be a carrier of the infection, need to be treated with the drugs prescribed by a doctor.

Pathology and homeopathy are two fields of scientific research that go hand in hand. As a matter of fact, homeopathic research on a disease is always accompanied by a pathological study of that disease. Pathology is the scientific field that studies diseases, while homeopathy is a gentle method for treating diseases. Homeopathic treatment follows the principles of similarity (Similia similibus curentur or "likes are cured by likes") and comprehensiveness. There is no universal treatment for a given disease; it must be adapted to each patient.
