Alleviating enterobiasis with homoeopathy

The threadworm, or Enterobius vermicularis, is a round-shaped worm that belongs to the Oxyuridae family.Able to reach a centimetre in length, it can infest the human body, especially that of a child. The presence of this parasite in the intestine is not without consequences. It is this worm that is responsible for oxyurasis or enterobiasis. It is a contagious disease that usually occurs after ingesting food or inhaling dust contaminated with the threadworm’s eggs, which will only hatch once they are inside the stomach. The larvae then migrate to the small and large intestine to reach the anus and other surrounding organs.

Symptoms of enterobiasis

The main warning sign of enterobiasis is pruritus ani. More specifically, it consists of intense and sometimes unbearable itching that usually occurs during the evening and night and can result in skin infections or lesions due to scratching. Pruritus stemming from the nose, eye or ear is also a tell-tale sign of enterobiasis. The latter may even be causing digestive problems, such as nausea, abdominal pain, constipation and diarrhoea, or neuropsychiatric disorders like irritability, twitching, nervousness and agitation. It may also be the cause of urinary disorders, such as incontinence and pain in the bladder, or genital disorders – like itching of the vulva or penis and vaginitis, or respiratory problems, among which one can include coughing, rhinitis and bronchitis. Moreover, this condition is often accompanied by erythema, dermatitis, bacterial dermatitis or furunculosis. In all cases, people who suffer from enterobiasis quickly become thin and pale.

Treating pruritus

In case of nasal itching, take five granules of Cina 30 K twice a day. To overcome anal itching, take three granules of Teuricum Marum 9 CH three times a day. And in the presence of anal itching that worsens when the patient is in bed, take five granules of Sulphur 30 K twice a day.

Treating abdominal pain

The threadworm’s life cycle in the stomach results in digestive problems and abdominal pain, especially colics. Thus, five granules of Cina 9 CH need to be taken every morning and every night. Otherwise, three granules of Spiella 9 CH need to be administered three times a day.

Treating nervousness

If nervousness occurs in association with teeth grinding and urinary incontinence, try sucking five granules of Cina 9 CH in the morning and evening. But if nervosity is accompanied by stuttering, take five granules of Spigelia 9 CH twice a day.

When should you consult a doctor?

If, despite taking homoeopathic remedies, the symptoms persist or take a long time to disappear, the patient should seek further medical attention. Similarly, if the treatment has already lasted 72 hours during which no improvement was observed, it is advisable to no longer resort to self-medication and to seek the help of a health professional instead. Finally, know that children and infants that are affected by enterobiasis and suffer from severe diarrhoea and / or blood-stained stools should be hospitalized as soon as possible.

Good to know: Homoeopathy has a limited action against enterobiasis since it cannot completely remove all of the worms present in the intestine. However, it is very effective when it comes to treating this condition’s symptoms. Furthermore, it is equally efficient when it comes to preventing this pathology form occurring or recurring.

Pathology and homeopathy are two fields of scientific research that go hand in hand. As a matter of fact, homeopathic research on a disease is always accompanied by a pathological study of that disease. Pathology is the scientific field that studies diseases, while homeopathy is a gentle method for treating diseases. Homeopathic treatment follows the principles of similarity (Similia similibus curentur or "likes are cured by likes") and comprehensiveness. There is no universal treatment for a given disease; it must be adapted to each patient.
