Exhaustion

Fighting against exhaustion with homoeopathy

Exhaustion is characterized by a decrease in physical or mental abilities in response to excessive physical or intellectual effort. This is known as heavy fatigue, of which the degree and symptoms vary between individuals. According to the WHO, the people who are most likely to suffer from a state of exhaustion are workers, hence the term “burnout” to describe the condition of an exhausted worker. This state of fatigue is especially characterized by a decrease in physical and intellectual aptitudes,  and this condition is the source of many physiological and psychological disorders that can be treated with homoeopathy.

Symptoms

In general, exhaustion is always preceded by a characteristic warning that manifests itself by a need to rest. When a weary individual forgoes this restorative rest, the first symptoms of exhaustion start to appear immediately. First of all, the body is affected and is unable to provide the slightest effort. In most cases, a state of exhaustion leads to various psychological symptoms. The person suffering from exhaustion becomes anxious, angry, aggressive and gradually loses self-esteem. At the same time, the patient becomes increasingly amnesic and loses much of his or her intellectual abilities.

Treating physical exhaustion

The onset of various symptoms linked to exhaustion can be avoided by taking remedies immediately after physical efforts. Taking a dose of Arnica 9 CH after physical exercice is recommended and up to 5 granules can be taken 5 times a day in order to speed up recovery. In case of aching or stiff muscles, taking three granules of Eupatorium 5 CH or Rhus Tox 5 CH twice a day can help prevent exhaustion. Finally, in case of heavy sweating during exercise, or if symptoms like diarrhoea or vomiting appear, take a dose of China 9 CH in the morning followed by 3 granules of China 4 CH during 3 consecutive days.

Mental exhaustion and memory loss

In case memory loss is observed after intellectual efforts, a condition that is often accompanied by behavioural disorders and difficulty concentrating, one can take 3 granules of Phosphoric acid 5 CH, to be sucked on twice a day. If the decrease in memory is characterized by the inability to make an intellectual effort as well as forgetting recent events, one can take 3 granules of one of the following remedies twice a week: Kalium brom 9 CH, Kalium phos 9 CH, Lycopodium 9 CH or Anacardium 9 CH.

Treatment in case of mental fatigue

When fatigue is manifested by symptoms of cerebral exertion such as stress, anxiety and depression, a daily intake of Phosporicum acidum or Kalium phosphoricus 9 to 15 CH is also recommended. If the exhaustion is accompanied by a decreased sex drive and a desire to use psychotropic drugs, taking a dose of Selenium 7 CH once a day is recommended. In case of cerebral fatigue characterized by erectile dysfunction, it is advisable to complete the treatment by one or two daily intakes of Agnus castrus 9 CH.

When should you consult a doctor?

Due to the fact that a large number of symptoms can possibly indicate a state of exhaustion, establishing an accurate diagnosis can prove to be a difficult task. Only a discussion between patient and doctor during the medical consultation will help confirm that the symptoms indicate extreme fatigue. It is for this reason that it is advisable to consult a doctor as soon as the first signs of loss of dynamism.

Pathology and homeopathy are two fields of scientific research that go hand in hand. As a matter of fact, homeopathic research on a disease is always accompanied by a pathological study of that disease. Pathology is the scientific field that studies diseases, while homeopathy is a gentle method for treating diseases. Homeopathic treatment follows the principles of similarity (Similia similibus curentur or "likes are cured by likes") and comprehensiveness. There is no universal treatment for a given disease; it must be adapted to each patient.
