Lipothymia

Treating lipothymia with homoeopathy

Lipothymia is a general ill feeling, characterized by a partial loss of consciousness. The leading known cause of lipothymia is a lack of oxygen being supplied to the brain. Nonetheless, lipothymia may also result from low blood pressure, hunger, fatigue, a sudden change of position or a prolonged standing position. On the other hand, lipothymia may also be caused by an emotional shock, pain, fear or anxiety.  Finally, in the case of a vasovagal episode, know that a confined and hot environment could be the cause.

Symptoms

In general, lipothymia is preceded by a number of physical disorders that include dizziness, tinnitus, shakes, hot flushes, palpitations, epigastric discomfort with nausea, fatigue and blurred vision. Lipothymia could, in some cases, be followed by a temporary loss of consciousness, much like a syncope. However, unlike the previously-cited condition, a person victim of lipothymia can quickly find recover all of his or her abilities and respond to external stimuli or simple questions.

Lipothymia and blood pressure

The decrease in blood pressure during prolonged standing, or due to orthostatic hypotension, may result in lipothymia. If discomfort is accompanied by paleness, sweating and a feeling of exhaustion, the most appropriate remedy is undoubtedly five granules of China 5 CH, to be taken twice a day. In case of primary hypotension, of which the cause is unknown, it is recommended to dilute 50 drops of Eleutherococcus TM or Ginseng TM in a glass of water twice a day.

Lipothymia of emotional origin

Among the patients who suffer from lipothymia, the leading cause of the pathology is usually an emotional shock or stress. If the discomfort is characterized by a tingling sensation that precedes a bout of spasmophilia or a crisis of hysteria, Moschus 7 CH is indicated. But if lipothymia is followed by fainting, Ignatia 9 CH is often prescribed. Sometimes, an emotion results in a patient’s significant weakening, which is accompanied by a feeling of emptiness. In this case, it is recommended to take Gelsemium 7 CH, especially if the discomfort leads to muscular weakness in the lower limbs. Five granules of each of the above-mentioned remedies are to be taken at regular intervals until the patient’s condition improves.

Treating vasovagal episodes

Simply remaining in a confined space may resut in lipothymia. This sometimes occurs when the body lacks oxygen or when the metabolism is not functioning properly. To treat the discomfort, it is advisable to take five granules of Pulsatilla 9 CH, repeating the intakes until improvement is noticed. But if the lipothymia occurs as a result of suffocating heat, Antimonium 9 CH is the most appropriate remedy. Five granules should be taken, and intakes should be renewed until noticeable improvement. Finally, when the lipothymia is due to a sunstroke, taking five granules of Glonoinum 9 CH is indicated.

When should you consult a doctor?

A medical consultation is essential when the lipothymia results in fainting that lasts longer than a minute. It is also the case when the discomfort occurs frequently. Furthermore, take the patient to the emergency room or call for help if the lipothymia is accompanied by convulsions or other alarming symptoms.
