Major depressive disorder

Treating major depressive disorder with homoeopathy

Major depressive disorder (MDD) is often very difficult to heal and overcome for the patient, and may occur as a result of the loss of a job, a loved one, or any other personal problem. Mood disorders, anxiety, and sadness are often the most characteristic signs of depression. In addition, there are all sorts of drugs available to treat such diseases. However, it is also possible to resort to homoeopathic remedies to relieve various symptoms of depression.

In general, depressive persons are constantly prone to sadness and an all-encompassing low mood. They see everything in black and nothing they do or hear causes them to rejoice. They think their life is monotonous, boring and meaningless. They suffer from a loss of energy and constantly feel exhausted and tired. The fatigue, which may either be physical or mental, is especially present in the morning. This fatigue prevents them from working or engaging in a given activity, as if they were devoid of physical strength. They may also suffer from a lack of concentration or an inability to remember certain things. In some cases, an affected person may also have a total blockage in the brain. This can lead to an inability to concentrate, mental paralysis, a total lack of self-confidence and an inability to reach out to others. A depressed person constantly lacks self-esteem. In addition, he or she always feels a sense of failure, whether it be on a professional or personal level. Moreover, most of the time, this may lead the affected person to contemplate suicidal thoughts Suicide attempts and altruistic homicides are also among the depressive patients’ most common gestures.

Treating the symptoms

To treat mild depression following an annoyance or a mourning period, take 5 granules of Ignatia 9 CH after meals, three times a day. To relieve mental fatigue and to fight against the loss of memory, it is advisable to take 5 granules of Kalium phosphoricum 9 CH. As for anxiety, Arsenicum album 9 CH proves to be the most suitable remedy. In this case, 5 granules of this medicine need to be taken 3 times a day, right after meals. To recover self-confidence and fight against the feeling of permanent failure, the most appropriate remedy is Aurum metallicum 9 CH, of which 5 granules need to be taken three times a day. To mitigate the effects of hysterical crises, take 5 granules of Ignatia 9 CH three times a day. Natrum muriaticum 9 CH is indicated for people that suffer from weight loss and excessive thirst.

Other forms of treatment

Sometimes, some depressed persons may have a hard time crying and cannot bear being consoled. In this case, administer 5 granules of Natrum muriaticum 9 CH. If, on the other hand, they only feel good when they are accompanied and comforted by others, they may take 5 granules of Arsenicum album 9 CH to help them overcome this dependence. Those who become even more depressed when listening to music can take 5 granules of Natrum sulfuricum 9 CH. If these symptoms can only be cured by eating, take 5 granules of Anacardium orientalis 9 CH.

When should you consult a doctor?

If the patient’s state of health does not improve after 15 days and the symptoms of depression do not go away, you must consult a doctor immediately. Homoeopathy is a form of add-on to the treatment against depression. Keep in mind that it is always advised to consult a doctor for the most worrying cases.

Pathology and homeopathy are two fields of scientific research that go hand in hand. As a matter of fact, homeopathic research on a disease is always accompanied by a pathological study of that disease. Pathology is the scientific field that studies diseases, while homeopathy is a gentle method for treating diseases. Homeopathic treatment follows the principles of similarity (Similia similibus curentur or "likes are cured by likes") and comprehensiveness. There is no universal treatment for a given disease; it must be adapted to each patient.
