Mastodynia is a disorder that is characterized by breast pain and that mainly affects women that have not yet reached the age of menopause. It comes in two types, namely: premenstrual mastodynia and fibrocystic mastodynia.
Breast pain resulting from mastodynia may be unilateral, bilateral or diffuse and usually occur two to six days before menstruation, hence the name of premenstrual mastodynia. Mastodynia is accompanied by burning sensations, breast tenderness, feelings of tightness and heaviness, and the slightest touch of the breast is extremely painful. This is the result of cyclic changes that occur in the breast, a phenomenon linked to ovarian hormonal secretions. As for fibrocystic mastodynia, it is characterized by an irregular hardness of various parts of the breast. The oedema that subsequently appears is a result of an excessive level of oestrogen. The most visible and most sensitive symptom is undoubtedly the increasing breast size and the pain that results from the slightest touch.
To treat mastodynia, it is advisable to opt for Folliculinum 15 CH. To relieve hard and painful breasts, it is indicated to take 5 granules of Bryonia alba four times a day until the pain completely disappears. In case of shooting pains in the breast and itching sensations in the rectum and vagina, it is recommended to opt for Hydrastis canadensis.
Conium maculatum is indicated if the breast pain is throbbing and if it appears before menstruation. In this case, it is also possible to take 3 granules of Arnica montana 9 CH every hour. Lac canimum 9 CH is the most suitable remedy for the treatment of premenstrual syndrome. It is necessary to take 5 granules daily from the onset of the first symptoms and until the following menstruation cycle.
Given that breast pain can have many causes, it is best to consult a doctor as soon as unusual symptoms occur. The problem may, for example, be the consequence of taking contraceptive pills. Furthermore, a medical consultation becomes essential when a lump forms in the peripheral part of the breast.
