Pregnancy

Handling pregnancy more easily with homoeopathy

Because of the many hormonal changes that occur during this period, pregnancy is a stage in live that is always accompanied by a number of symptoms that are difficult to endure for pregnant women. Thus, besides the many physical changes it brings, pregnancy usually triggers a number of symptoms in women including morning sickness, which is always very troublesome, frequent vomiting, heartburn of varying intensity, lower back pain or pronounced drowsiness that sometimes lasts until delivery.

If medical attention is of course required in this situation, one should not lose sight of the fact that homoeopathy is a first choice alternative for those who prefer to limit their consumption of antiemetics, antispasmodics or analgesics. Moreover, thanks to the many dilutions they undergo, homoeopathic remedies can be taken throughout pregnancy without any risk to alleviate the most troublesome symptoms and favour better health.

Alleviating feelings of nausea and vomiting

Many homoeopathic remedies can be used during pregnancy to fight against nausea and vomiting.

However, to know which ones to choose, it is useful to consider the symptoms that often accompany these feelings of nausea. Furthermore, it is important to know that these remedies can be taken as many times as necessary, without presenting any danger to the pregnant woman or foetus. For optimal effectiveness, it is recommended not to suck on the granules, but instead to let them dissolve in water in order for the remedies to act more rapidly.

To relieve feelings of nausea that are worsened by movement or the smell of tobacco, it is advisable to take 5 granules of Cocculus indicus 9 CH whenever deemed necessary. If nausea is triggered at the sight or smell of food and is accompanied by intense thirst and bloating, take 5 granules of Colchicum autumnal 5 CH as often as necessary. However, if nausea is triggered by the smell of food but is alleviated by eating, it is recommended to take 5 granules of Ignatia amara 9 CH until complete disappearance of the symptoms. Similarly, it will be advised to use this remedy if nausea is always accompanied by multiple yawns.

If nausea is accompanied by substantial saliva secretions, it is advisable to take 5 granules of Ipeca 9 CH as often as necessary. On the other hand, if very acidic vomiting occurs immediately after the secretion of saliva, it is better to take 5 granules of Iris versicoloir 9 CH whenever deemed necessary. If nausea is accompanied by flatulence, belching and heartburn (burning sensation in the oesophagus combined to acid reflux), take 5 granules of Kalium carbonicum 9 CH as often as necessary.

If, apart from morning sickness, a pregnant woman experiences feelings of “emptiness” in the stomach and feels many cravings throughout the day (including the desire for condiments like vinegar or mustard ), she will need to take 5 granules of Sepia officinalis 9 CH every time she feels the need to vomit. In case of non-food-related vomiting accompanied by abundant salivary secretion, it is recommended to take 5 granules of Lobelia inflata 5 CH as often as necessary. If nausea is not accompanied by any particular symptom but tends to significantly diminish after a meal, take 5 granules of Petroleum 5 CH whenever deemed appropriate. Finally, if nausea and vomiting increase with movement but are alleviated as soon as the pregnant woman is outdoors, take 5 granules of Tabacum 5 CH as often as possible.

Fighting against drowsiness

From the first days of pregnancy, the pregnant woman is often tired and generally feels the need to sleep for a few hours. To fight against this feeling of tiredness and regain more energy, take 5 granules of Nux moschata 9 CH three times a day for the duration of the period of drowsiness.

Favouring a better intestinal transit

Always very difficult for pregnant women, constipation is unfortunately one of the most common symptoms during pregnancy. To remedy this, it is advisable to take 5 granules of Collinsonia canadensis 5 CH twice a day as well as five granules of Sepia officinalis 5 CH per day until the end of pregnancy. Very mild, these remedies help to fight effectively against constipation while helping pregnant women recover a better intestinal transit.

Handling weight gain with cellulite infiltration

During pregnancy, it is for a pregnant woman to put on a few pounds. However, if this weight gain quickly becomes excessive and is accompanied by cellulite infiltration, it will be necessary to take 5 granules of Thuja occidentalis daily until the end of pregnancy.

Preventing the pregnancy mask

To reduce the amount of brown spots that usually appear on the face of pregnant women after frequent exposure to the sun, take 5 granules of Sepia officinalis 9 CH until the end of pregnancy. Nevertheless, keep in mind that it is essential to protect the skin with an appropriate sunscreen motion in order to limit the appearance of the pregnancy mask.

Relieving lower back pain

To relieve lower back pain, it is recommended to take 5 granules of Kalium carbonicum 9 CH once or twice a day until the end of pregnancy.

Reducing uterine contractions

In case of uterine contractions, it is essential to consult a doctor without delay so that the best course of treatment can be determined as soon as possible. In such a situation, it is important to know that homoeopathic treatment can in no way replace the allopathic treatment that will be implemented. However, if the patient’s state of health does not require hospitalization, homoeopathic remedies help to alleviate the pain caused by contractions while decreasing their frequency so that the intake of antispasmodics may be reduced to a minimum.

Accordingly, to favour faster recovery, take five granules of Caulophyllum thalictroides 9 CH and 5 granules of Cuprum arsenicosum 9 CH at the onset of contractions and pain.

Fighting off post-partum depression

During the first weeks after delivery, women often feel sad and depressed, which can often cause many inconveniences and prevent them from properly caring for their baby. To limit the effects of this depression, also known as the “baby blues”, take 5 granules of Sepia officinalis 15 CH daily from the onset of symptoms (crying, sadness or depression among others). For lasting improvement, it is also very important to continue treatment until the complete disappearance of symptoms linked to post-natal depression.

Treating post-partum alopecia

To reduce the hair loss that often occurs shortly after childbirth, take a weekly dose of Eberthinum 15 CH or of Paratyphoidinum B 15 CH over a 2-month period. If the hair loss is also accompanied by a feeling of intense fatigue, the patient should take 5 granules of Phosphoricum acidum 15 CH per day. In case of burnout, it is better to take a daily 5-granule intake of Selenium metallicum until the symptoms’ final disappearance.

Pathology and homeopathy are two fields of scientific research that go hand in hand. As a matter of fact, homeopathic research on a disease is always accompanied by a pathological study of that disease. Pathology is the scientific field that studies diseases, while homeopathy is a gentle method for treating diseases. Homeopathic treatment follows the principles of similarity (Similia similibus curentur or "likes are cured by likes") and comprehensiveness. There is no universal treatment for a given disease; it must be adapted to each patient.
